Hello! My name is Ines. Nice to meet you.
My target language is Japanese and one of the ways I like to expand my vocabulary in my target language is by watching anime or doramas.
Last weekend I decided to open my Netflix to watch something and I realized that since I was in Japan the animes available to watch had increased. So I decided to rewatch the anime ちはやふる (Chihayafuru). To my surprise, I couldn't put English subtitles. So I decided to try watching the anime with Japanese subtitles. Just to try and see how much I could understand. and if there were words I didn't know I'll just check with the subtitles and look it up on the internet. You can also try to do this but with both English and Japanese subtitles (chrome extension Language ....).
Here are some vocabulary, new kanji, or expressions I noted while I was watching:
ー 俺(おれ)it's a way to say "I" used by guys
ー 殺す(ころす)to kill (I noted it for the kanji ( ˙▿˙ ))
ー 訳が分からない(わけがわからない)nonsense or I don-t get it/I am lost
And if you are interested in this anime here is a little summary of the story.
Chihayafuru follows the story of Ayase Chihaya. Since she was little she only had wished for the success of her sister-s modeling career. Then she meets Wataya Arata, a boy being bullied by Chihaya-s class. While defending him, Arata shows her the world of competitive karuta. Based on the Ogura hundred poet anthology, this card game consists of matching the first part of the poem that is being read aloud with the other half that is set in front of the players.
The story then follows the journey of Chihaya while she tries to get the title of Queen of Karuta given to the best female player of karuta in Japan.
I hope you try this method one day and find it as entertaining as I do.
See you!
Ines
